My two cents
Alright so I've been lazy lately and not writing as much as I should. But today is different. I'm finally tired of hearing the same thing over and over again in the news. Its illegal immigration.
The argument so far is, these people want a better life. The economic conditions in their countries are increasingly unproductive. Look at those poor children. In America they will have better health care and education. Their lives will be better.
Nice point. It's sweet and true in some cases. But lets look at all sides of this story.
I'm Hispanic. My Grandmother came to this country legally from Mexico, my Grandfather was born here. And from my understanding, his parents were legal as well. Ask my Grandmother and she will tell you she is not Mexican-American, she is American. The way she sees it is that you cannot be for two countries. You form your alligance with one and stand by it. When she became a citizen as a little girl, she became an American, no going back.
Some of my friends are also immigrants. They waited for several years. They made appointments and submitted paperwork. They came here legally. And do you know what they think of this illegal immigration bit. They hate it. They wonder what makes illegals so special that they can cut the line. Why is it that the illegals should be rewarded with free medical care and their children can go to school for free, while they have to pay for taxes?
Recently the national anthem was translated to Spanish for those who don't understand it. What about translating it to German, Celtic, French, Japanese, Farsi, and any other language that immigrants come from.
Lets be realistic. Immigrants aren't just from Mexico, and it is very naive to think so. Immigrants come from European countries as well.
My understanding is that if I were to go to another country, and they found that I was there illegally, I would be deported. No ands, ifs, or buts. So why is it such a double standard for America?
If you want to immigrate to a country, you abide by their rules. You respect them and do everything they want you to. And if you think it is so hard to get in there, you don't cut the line. Because it only makes it harder on everyone else in line.
So maybe this is just a rant. But it's an aurgument that had to be made.
